Retro games and console history, from arcades to the modern classics

Editorial Policy

Our Goal

The Front Page Wire publishes evergreen articles about retro gaming and console history: classic hardware, the arcade era, landmark games, collecting and preservation. Our goal is accuracy and clarity. This page explains how we choose topics, how we check facts and what we do when we get something wrong.

How We Choose Topics

We focus on questions readers genuinely ask and that stay relevant over time: how a classic console came to be, why a game mattered, how arcade hardware worked, or how to look after a collection. We avoid rumours and content that depends on this week’s announcements. We do not publish content that helps readers obtain pirated games, ROMs or BIOS files, and we do not publish gambling content.

Research and Fact-Checking

  • Release dates, hardware specifications and sales figures are checked against manufacturer and publisher sources, reputable reference works and established gaming publications.
  • Legal topics, such as emulation and copyright, are checked against court decisions and official sources such as the US Copyright Office. These articles are educational and are not legal advice.
  • Gaming history is full of well-loved anecdotes. Where a story is disputed or cannot be confirmed, we say so rather than presenting it as fact.
  • Where figures can change, we state the point in time they refer to, for example “as of 2026”.
  • If we cannot verify a claim, we leave it out. We do not invent quotes, statistics, prices or personal experiences.

Sources

Each article ends with a list of the main sources we used, linked so readers can check them. We prefer primary and authoritative sources such as company materials, court records, museums and preservation organizations.

Use of AI Tools

AI tools assist our team with research organization and drafting. Every article is then fact-checked against sources and edited by a person before publication. Responsibility for what we publish rests with our editorial team, not with any software.

Authorship

Articles are published under the pen name Martin Calloway, which represents our small independent editorial team. We do not attribute credentials or experience to the pen name that we do not have.

Collecting and Repair Advice

Our collecting guides describe general, widely accepted practices. We do not give investment advice or quote prices, which change constantly. Where hardware work carries risk, such as anything involving CRT televisions or soldering, we say so and recommend professional help.

Corrections

If you find an error, please email [email protected] with the article link and, ideally, a source. We review every report. Factual errors are corrected promptly, and significant corrections are noted at the end of the article with the date of the update.

Sponsored Content and Links

The Front Page Wire is independent and not affiliated with any console maker, publisher or retailer. If we publish sponsored content, it will always be clearly labelled “Sponsored”, and any paid links will carry the rel=”sponsored” attribute. Sponsors have no influence over our regular editorial content.
